Versatile Dress/Skirt on ETSY

Hi all,

I have added the "Versatile Dress/Skirt" on ETSY today.

Lately I have been working on a "Maternity Line" and I have so many ideas, gosh it's so hard limiting it down to a few pieces! Please let me know if you had a favourite item you loved wearing when you were pregnant.

Versatile Skirt/Dress

I can tell this will be my favourite dress to make for summer! and in lots & lots of colours!

I cut a pattern from a friends skirt (thanks Rin) and I love it! Easy to make, looks great on, you can make it out of different types of fabric and you can wear it as a short skirt, long skirt & dress.


Here I made it out of a suiting that has lots of spandex in it, so it is super stretchy. I made the waist band in a different colour than the skirt, so it looks a bit different as a dress.
I love it so much that I made a dress out of a olive/brown patterned jersey material. This will be my most weared dress in summer!

There will definately be more of these to come! Let me know if like the idea of a Versatile Dress/Skirt?

Panelled Skirt

Here is another way to add a feature piece of fabric to a great skirt! The feature fabric I used is a white stretch net with strips of beigh material that is sewn on in a cirular pattern. I always looked at this fabric when I went into the fabric store and never knew what to do with it!

Here is a skirt that is made with panels. The front has 4 panels all with different lengths and directions, which is great to the eye! The back has 2 panels and a kick out at the back.

I love this pattern and will be using it more! I can also see it with each panel being a different colour and fabric texture. I am not a fan of darts... so next time I'll add a nice thick waistband to the top of the skirt.Feedback is great, it helps me to improve and find out what othr people like to wear. Please let me know if you like this design of skirt?

Skirt with triangle feature

I have had this idea in my head for a few months now... since doing the Sewing Inspiration Course. This skirt suits a pear shape body, it follows the line of your hips out to a A line.

The triangle feature at the bottom lets the eye quickly move past my pear shape hips and the eye follows the line towards the bottom of the skirt.

If you see a piece of material you just love, but it is too expensive to buy 1-2 mtrs for a full skirt. Here is a way to have best of both worlds! You can use the material as a feature and only need to buy 20-30 cm.

Let me know if you prefer to wear pants or skirts? Do you just wear skirts on special occasions?
